Williams Lake RCMP bringing back bike patrol

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Williams Lake RCMP officers will be cycling along local streets this summer as its bike patrol program is returning to the community.

Police officials said the funding supported the purchase of two new police e-bikes, with the necessary accessories and equipment thanks to funding from the Community Safety and Targeted Enforcement Program (C-STEP).

Williams Lake RCMP will also enhance overtime patrols in the downtown core and local parks.

“Officers assigned to the bike patrol have completed specialized training in police cycling tactics and skills, significantly improving their effectiveness, mobility, and professionalism while on patrol,” said Williams Lake RCMP officials.

Police said the bikes will allow officers to move quickly and efficiently through areas not easily accessible to traditional patrol vehicles. Officials add that bike patrols also support public engagement, promote officer fitness, and provide a cost-effective and environmentally conscious policing option.

“The Detachment is grateful to Red Shreds and Cycle Logic for supplying the bikes and all necessary equipment for our members,” said Staff Sergeant Brad McKinnon of the Williams Lake RCMP.

“We’re pleased to let the public know that bike patrols are back, so expect to see officers out and about on two wheels.”
