KAMLOOPS — A man suspected of stealing an ATM from a Westsyde pub made a streamline to a different kind of bank overnight.

Shortly after 3:30 a.m. Friday (June 26), Kamloops RCMP say officers were told of a break-in on the 3300-block of Westsyde Road where two suspects driving a stolen truck were seen stealing an ATM.

In a news release issued Friday, Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet says a police dog handler found two men matching the suspects and tracked them to the North Thompson River.

While one man was arrested, the second suspect swam across the river and remains outstanding.

“Police officers flooded the ground and the river, with assistance Kamloops Fire and Rescue. However the suspect was not located, despite significant searching,” Shoihet says. “We are releasing a photo of the suspect seen in the river and asking anyone who lives in the area east of the North Thompson River to keep their eyes out for the suspect, who will undoubtedly still be wet and cold. If you see him, immediately call police.”

The outstanding suspect is described as a white, balding man with a beard and full sleeve tattoos on his right arm. He was last seen wearing a pair of blue jeans.

While the stolen ATM and truck have since been recovered, police say the cash had been removed prior to being found.
