LYTTON, B.C. — UPDATE (5:15 p.m.): The BC Wildfire Service has changed the fire status to ‘under control’.

UPDATE (4:45 p.m.): The Thompson-Nicola Regional District says all evacuation alerts and orders issued by the TNRD and the Village of Lytton related to the fire have been lifted, effective 5:00 p.m. Tuesday.

The ‘all clear’ affects 230 properties.

EARLIER: There is some relief for residents around Lytton Tuesday (June 23) as further threat from the Saw Creek wildfire appears to have subsided.

According to an update posted to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) website Tuesday afternoon, the fire is classified as ‘being held’, meaning it is not expected to grow beyond its current boundary.

The fire broke out on Friday just south of the village and east of the Trans Canada Highway. Its estimated size on Tuesday afternoon is 706 hectares.

Nearly 200 firefighters are working to snuff the flames Tuesday, along with 10 helicopters, three pieces of heavy equipment and 56 structure protection personnel.

In its posted update, BCWS says its crews have been establishing control lines along the Lytton Creek drainage and between the Fraser River and the highway.

Evacuation orders and alerts remain in place for portions of the Village of Lytton, Thompson-Nicola Regional District and three area First Nations communities.

Speaking to CFJC Today Monday, TNRD Area ‘I’ Director Tricia Thorpe said one home was lost in the fire.
