Province, First Nations Health Authority, CMHA fund addictions treatment beds in Adams Lake
ADAMS LAKE, B.C. — Adams Lake is one of three B.C. communities to receive funding for a set of First Nations-led addictions treatment beds in newly-announced partnership.
Friday (June 19), the B.C. government announced it has partnered with the First Nations Health Authority and Canadian Mental Health Association B.C. Division to deliver four supportive recovery beds to Adams Lake. The Haida Gwaii communities of Old Masset and Skidegate will each receive four beds, as well.
“The loss and grief caused by the toxic drug crisis continue to be felt in First Nations communities throughout the province,” said Health Minister Josie Osborne in a news release. “The ongoing and intergenerational impacts of colonialism and Indigenous-specific racism continue to shape people’s experiences and health outcomes, which is why culturally grounded, Nation-led care is so important.”
The province says the beds in Adams Lake are already open and ready to accept clients.
