LYTTON — Some residents outside the village of Lytton, B.C., have been told to get out, while others are on standby as an out-of-control wildfire burns just south of the community.

The evacuation orders cover approximately 13 properties east of Highway 1, from Florence Road north to Airport Road, while the alerts stand for two more properties along the nearby Trans-Canada Highway.

The BC Wildfire Service says the fire has grown to roughly 2 square kilometres and it will likely continue to grow.

The wildfire service says the blaze was likely human-caused and is being fuelled, in part, by the hot, dry conditions.
