City of Kamloops invites residents to weigh in on Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops is turning to the public as part of a re-evaluation of the Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre.

During budget discussions in February, council lamented the low relative usage of the facility. That means taxpayers – not users – are paying an outsized share of the costs to keep the pool open.

The discussion resulted in a council directive for staff to come up with recommendations on how to increase usage of the pool.

Tuesday (June 16), the city launched a survey to determine who is using the Westsyde Pool and for what purposes. The survey will be available online until July 3.

In addition to the online survey, city staff will be set up at Northills Mall and Westsyde Centennial Park this Saturday (June 20) between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. for in-person conversations.

“Recreation is a community benefit. Providing subsidized recreation services that support the well-being of all residents is an important role for a municipal government, including the City of Kamloops,” said the city’s Sherri Holmes in a news release. “We are interested in hearing residents’ thoughts on how we can improve facility use and enhance facility and program offerings at Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre.”
