Speeding tickets down in Kamloops area in May; excessive speeding up across the province
KAMLOOPS — Drivers in the Kamloops region were on better behaviour in May 2026.
According to BC Highway Patrol, 1,881 speeding tickets were issued in the Central B.C. region in May 2026. The area includes, Clearwater, Kamloops, Kelowna and Merritt. It’s down more than 2,200 speeding tickets issued in the area from the same month in 2025.
For excessive speeding, the Kamloops region is on par with last year. BC Highway Patrol says 93 excessive speeding tickets with impoundment were issued in May 2026 compared to 94 during the same month last year.
During the detachment’s May campaign, BC Highway Patrol noted an officer impounding three motorcycles during a single stop on Highway 97 east of Falkland where the three riders were travelling together at excessive speeds.
