Kamloops nearly doubled its year-to-date drug death total in April: BC Coroners Service

KAMLOOPS — The month of April saw Kamloops nearly double its total of deaths due to drug toxicity in 2026.


New figures released by the BC Coroners Service show 11 deaths blamed on toxic drugs to the end of April in Kamloops. That’s up from just six to the end of March.

The city is still on pace for its lowest year-end overdose death total since 2019.

Overall, B.C. recorded 119 total deaths attributed to unregulated drugs in the month of April for a total of 522 through the first four months of the year.

More than three-quarters of all recorded drug deaths in 2026 have taken place inside homes, with about 18 per cent taking place outdoors.

The province says 68 per cent of those who died were between the ages of 30 and 59, and 76 per cent were male.
