KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) made quick work of a notable grass fire in Strathcona Park.

KFR Platoon Chief Ken Hartt told CFJC Today that crews received the call of a fire behind Boomers Auto Centers on Victoria Street West at around 7:45 p.m. Monday (June 1) where a plume of smoke was visible from multiple points in the city.

Hartt says the cause of the fire is currently unknown, although it appears to have started near the fence of the auto repair shop. He adds the fire grew to about 60 by 120 feet in size, but crews were able to prevent it from spreading uphill.

After ensuring there were no further hot spots to extinguish, Hartt says KFR cleared the scene nearly 15 minutes after the call came in. He credits the public for alerting crews as quickly as they did.
