Rayleigh home destroyed in overnight fire; occupants out safely

KAMLOOPS — A home in Rayleigh has been deemed a complete loss following an overnight fire.

Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) says crews from across the city responded to Beachview Place for a fully involved residential structure fire. Four engines and 16 personnel responded once the second-alarm call came in at around 12:30 a.m. Monday (June 1), but the fire was downgraded to a regular structure fire once crews were able to begin watering efforts.

KFR Platoon Chief Ken Hartt says crews were on scene until 6:30 a.m. and a crew change followed shortly after to ensure there were no hot spots emerging from the house fire.

“Because it was close to the parkland… and embers up from the fire were casting into the brush, they patrolled that area but there was no other involvement than the structure itself,” Hartt told CFJC Today

No injuries were reported and the neighbouring properties didn’t sustain fire damage.

Both occupants of the burning home were woken up by their smoke alarms and got out safely. Hartt is reminding residents to ensure their smoke alarms have working batteries.

A cause for the Beachview Place house fire has yet to be determined. Investigators will be on scene, as will KFR’s fire prevention team to ensure there are no hot spots.

Hartt says the area will be cordoned off for part of the day.
