LOGAN LAKE, B.C. — Logan Lake RCMP are thanking a resident for calling into the detachment to report a drunk driver and helping police remove him from the road.

On Thursday (May 28) at about 2:00 p.m., police officials said a witness saw a man getting out of a pickup truck parked behind a grocery store along Opal Drive.

The witness said the man appeared unsteady on his feet and stumbled into a pole outside of the store, he was later spotted at a nearby bank, with a strong odour of liquor.

A witness, concerned by the man’s behaviour, contacted RCMP and provided a description of the man and his truck.

Officers attended the area and quickly found a man driving a truck, both matching the description provided by the witness.

A roadside breath demand confirmed that the man was intoxicated and police gave him a 90-day driving prohibition and impounded his vehicle for 30 days.

“The quick thinking and detailed observations from a member of the public were instrumental in allowing officers to intervene before someone was seriously hurt,” said, Cpl. Chris Odgaard, Logan Lake RCMP detachment commander.

“This is a strong example of how the public and police working together can improve safety in our community.”

Police officials said this is a good reminder that the public should call 911 and report is as soon as possible.
