Kamloops Community Land Trust Foundation hits the ground running

May 29, 2026 | 10:02 AM

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Community Land Trust Foundation is searching for its first executive director.

Kamloops council voted in favour of establishing the independent, non-profit land steward in 2023. The Kamloops Community Land Trust Foundation focuses on acquiring and protecting land for community use and creating housing that aligns with local incomes.

After signing a long-term service agreement in April, the Kamloops Community Land Trust Foundation board of directors says it is looking for a leader who will oversee future community land projects and help shape the foundation’s long-term direction.

The Kamloops Community Land Trust Foundation has launched its first project delivered by the provincial government, through BC Builds at BC Housing program, at the site of the former Northbridge Hotel. The mixed-use development at 377 Tranquille Rd. will provide approximately 85 purpose-built rental homes and remain under community ownership to support long-term affordability and stability. The $29.2 million project is scheduled to be complete in autumn 2027.

The launch of the Kamloops Community Land Trust Foundation was partially funded through the Demonstrations Initiative, administered by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation under the National Housing Strategy.

The City of Kamloops failed to reach housing targets set by the provincial government for the second straight year in 2025.
