KAMLOOPS — It was a busy weekend for KGTC diver Philippe Wadsworth, as the Kamloops product represented Team Canada at the Junior Americas Cup in Mission Viejo, California. Wadsworth impressed in the first international competition of his young career. Bringing home three 2nd-place finishes in the 12-13-Year-Old Boys’ C Division.

“At first, when I got there, I was pretty nervous because I didn’t know what to expect, and then I got more comfortable,” Wadsworth told CFJC Today. “Then, like, I got to know more people, I got more comfortable with them and then like my competition got a bit better.”

Wadsworth won three silver medals at the Junior Americas Cup. He placed second in the one-meter springboard with a score of 288.70 points, second in the three-meter springboard with a score of 290.45 points and second in the platform with a score of 264.15 points.

“There were pretty good divers there, so I know I have to take my training pretty seriously,” the 11-year-old said.” Pretty fun getting to know people and it was my second time diving outside, so I had to get used to it, but when I got used to it, it was pretty fun.”

It was Wadsworth’s first time donning the maple leaf. The Kamloops native was thrilled to bring some hardware home over the weekend.

“I was pretty honored to represent Canada for the first time, and I think I represented the country pretty well.”

The diver now turns his attention to nationals in Regina, where he’ll represent BC in July.
