City of Kamloops warns of delays near city hall ahead of 2026 property tax deadline

KAMLOOPS — Property tax notices have been sent out via email and ‘snail mail’ and there are still a few weeks before the taxman comes knocking. As such, the City of Kamloops is asking residents to be mindful of construction underway near City Hall.

“With the ongoing construction around City Hall, we encourage all residents to create MyCity accounts to access their tax information online and to make their payments using online banking or the City’s online payment system,” Norman Thompson, the city’s taxation manager, said in a statement.

“Of course, we’re happy to assist residents in person, too.”

The deadline to pay property taxes is July 2, and a 10 per cent penalty will added for all payments made after that date. It’s also the deadline for home owner grant applications to be made directly to the province.

Taxes can be paid through online banking or by with a Visa or Mastercard (a 2.75 per cent convenience fee applies for credit card payments). Payments can also be made in person at Kamloops City Hall between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and at the Tournament Capital Centre from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays.

If those hours don’t work, people can use a 24/7 drop box outside City Hall or drop boxes inside the TCC, the Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre, and the North Shore Community Policing Office during facility hours.

There will also be extended hours from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. starting the week of June 22 for people who opt to pay their taxes in person at City Hall.

Municipal taxes are going up 5.7 per cent this year, but the city also collects taxes on behalf of other levels of government like the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, the Thompson Regional Hospital District and school taxes for the provincial government.
