SALMON ARM — The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) said it will seek a loan of up to $650,000 for the MacArthur-Reedman Heights Waterworks after an Alternative Approval Process (APP) faced no opposition.

CSRD officials said the APP had zero responses, indicating no opposition to the proposed borrowing.

An APP needs at least 10 per cent of residents to voice their opposition to a proposed bylaw to be abandoned.

“For MacArthur-Reedman Heights Waterworks Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 5934, 2026, the number of valid elector responses required to prevent the Board from proceeding with its establishment was 14. The number of valid elector response forms received by the CSRD in opposition to the service was zero,” said CSRD officials.

The CSRD will now move on to seeking a loan of up to $650,000 to replace the failing water system infrastructure.

The APP started on April 14 and ended on May 15, the CSRD the adopted the MacArthur-Reedman Heights Waterworks Loan Authorization Bylaw during their May 21 Board Meeting.

“Residents within the MacArthur Reedman Water System service area will begin to pay parcel taxes for the infrastructure upgrades in 2027,” said CSRD officials.

“A design for the new lake water intake and associated infrastructure upgrades is currently in development, with construction anticipated to occur in 2027 and 2028.”
