KAMLOOPS — A prayer service is planned this weekend for a young woman who still hasn’t been found after the vehicle she was in went into the North Thompson River last Sunday.

Friends of Benina Jepkoech organized a vigil next to the river this week, and they’ll also be hosting a service in her honour Saturday (May 23). The service will get underway at 4:00 p.m. at 1194 14th Street in Brocklehurst.

The 24-year-old Jepkoech is presumed to have drowned, but a 21-year-old woman who was also in the vehicle was rescued by three bystanders who had jumped into the river. The unidentified passenger and one of her rescuers were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after the crash.
