Emmy-winning Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson will develop and star as Betty Boop in a feature film adaptation of the iconic animated character. She partnered with Mark Fleischer, grandson of Betty Boop creator Max Fleischer, for the film exploring Boop’s origin through Max’s perspective. The story follows the relationship between artist and creation as he navigates creative pressures building one of the world’s first animated icons. This marks Betty Boop’s first starring theatrical role since the 1930s. Created in 1930, Betty Boop appeared in over 100 cartoons, evolving from a poodle-like nightclub singer into a Jazz Age icon. Brunson called Betty Boop “one of our nation’s most beloved cartoon characters” with “quiet but undeniable impact on culture for nearly a century.”
