HBO Harry Potter Series Recasts Ginny Weasley As Young Actor Exits

HBO will recast Ginny Weasley for the second season of its Harry Potter series after child actor Gracie Cochrane departed the role. “Due to unforeseen circumstances Gracie has made the challenging decision to step away from her role as Ginny Weasley in the HBO ‘Harry Potter’ series after Season 1,” Cochrane and her family announced in a joint statement. “Her time as part of the ‘Harry Potter’ world has been truly wonderful, and she is deeply grateful to Lucy Bevan and the entire production team for creating such an unforgettable experience.” HBO expressed support for the family’s decision and gratitude for Cochrane’s work. While Ginny appears minimally in the first season based on The Sorcerer’s Stone, the character becomes central to season two’s Chamber of Secrets storyline, where she unknowingly releases a deadly serpent at Hogwarts. Season one premieres this Christmas.
