NBC has officially ordered a primetime game show based on the popular New York Times puzzle Wordle. Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie will host the series, set to premiere in 2027. Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon, also a puzzle fan, serves as executive producer. The show will feature competitive teams battling in the “Wordle arena” for cash prizes. Wordle, acquired by the Times in 2022, attracts billions of players annually who guess five-letter words in six attempts using color-coded clues. The development comes as Guthrie recently returned to morning TVÂ following her mother’s February kidnapping in Arizona. Fallon also produces NBC’s Password game show.
