Kamloops council candidate Webster talks platform issues, online presence

KAMLOOPS — Nevin Webster is running for a council seat in the 2026 Kamloops municipal election, which is scheduled for Oct. 17.

He said his online presence and name recognition, established in part through parody-and-satire memes on social media accounts, is both an advantage and a hurdle.

”I’m known locally in this town as an online jokester and I want to show Kamloops I’m not just about the jokes,” said Webster, who manages Mattress King in the Mount Paul Industrial Park. “I’m not just about the parody and the satire. I actually have a deep interest in this town and want to see it change and flourish and grow in a positive way.”

Webster said his online efforts are not satisfying his desire to enact change, so he wants to be involved in making policy.

Atop his list of platform issues is street disorder, but that is not his only plank.

“I’m interested in communication,” Webster said, noting he is still rounding out his platform. “I think there’s been a breakdown in communication between city hall and its people. That is because of a few things, but I feel like I can help bridge that gap being that I do have this online presence that is a little unorthodox.”

Webster said he wants to help restore pride in Kamloops culture and hopes to see a boost in voter turnout.

“How do I rate my chances? The first thing I’m concerned with is increasing the amount of younger population getting to the polls,” Webster said. “I’m going to go with a strong 72 per cent right now, but I’m going to increase that to 85 (per cent) in the coming weeks.”
