Small fires break out around Kamloops after lightning storm rumbles through

KAMLOOPS — Thunderstorms that rumbled through the Kamloops area Wednesday evening (May 6) were followed by several small fire reports.

As of 9:00 p.m., the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) was reporting four fires around Kamloops. Two are believed to have been sparked by lightning, while fire investigators are looking into the cause of the other two.

BCWS says the O’Connor Lake fire north of Lac du Bois is spot-sized and lightning-caused.

The Barlett Creek fire east of McLure is also spot-sized, with the cause under investigation.

There are two fires at Harper Lake southwest of Chase. Both are small, with one believed to be lightning-caused and the other under investigation.

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District does not have any evacuation alerts or orders in place.
