SALMON ARM, B.C. — RCMP say they have determined a social media post purported to represent a threat to a school in Salmon Arm was not actually making a threat.

In a news release issued Tuesday (May 5), RCMP say officers were alerted on Monday to social media posts believed to allege a student would bring a gun to a secondary school in the Shuswap city.

The video in question showed a teenager shooting an airsoft pistol.

That led to rumour circulating further on social media that a threat was imminent.

RCMP say they investigated the post in concert with School District 83 and found no such threats were made.

“The reports were based on social media posts that someone decided to interpret as a possible threat,” said BC RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Brett Urano. “There was never any threat to the school, and at no time were students or staff in danger.”

Urano notes the airsoft pistol was assessed by RCMP, who also determined the video did not represent a threat.

Anyone with further information about the incident is asked to contact Salmon Arm RCMP.
