Kimmel Defends “Expectant Widow” Joke Amid Trump Firing Demands
Jimmy Kimmel defended his controversial joke about Melania Trump after both the President and First Lady demanded ABC fire him. During a mock White House Correspondents Dinner sketch last Thursday, Kimmel called Melania an “expectant widow,” referencing the couple’s age large difference. The joke drew criticism when a real security incident occurred at the actual Correspondents Dinner days later. “It was not by any stretch of the definition a call to assassination. And they know that,” Kimmel said Monday. Trump posted on Truth Social calling the comment “despicable” and demanding Disney fire the host. Melania separately condemned Kimmel’s “hateful and violent rhetoric” on social media. However, Kimmel fired back last night that if it’s hateful rhetoric Melania has a problem with, “a great place to start to dial that back would be to have a conversation with your husband about it.”
