BARRIERE, B.C. — The RCMP Musical Ride is set to make a stop in Barriere this August, giving people in the North Thompson Valley a closer look at one of the most cherished symbols of Canadian heritage, tradition, and pride.

Hosted by the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Association, the family-friendly performance will take place at the North Thompson Fairgrounds – at 4856 Dunn Lake Road – on Friday, Aug. 21. Gates will open at 3:00 p.m. and the show will start at 7:00 p.m.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome the RCMP Musical Ride to Barriere,” a statement from the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Association said. “This is a rare opportunity for our community to experience a truly Canadian event right here at home.”

The RCMP Musical Ride – which was designated as a national historic event in 2023 – features up to 32 riders and their horses performing intricate drills and elaborate formations choreographed to music.

During the stop in Barriere, there will also be a live dog team demonstration hosted by the Superfly Canine Agility Club at 6:00 p.m. Organizers say a number of food trucks will also be on site during the event, which will end around 9:00 p.m.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children aged six to 12. Kids five and under will get in for free.

The RCMP Musical Ride will also be making stops in Armstrong on Aug. 15 and 16, Williams Lake on Aug. 19, and Merritt on Aug. 26 this year. The full 2026 schedule can be found here.
