KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Rotary Spring Food Drive in support of the Kamloops Food Bank is slated for this Saturday (April 25).

After back-to-back record-breaking food drives, the food bank is in need of another, as the shelves in their Kamloops warehouse are bare. This Saturday volunteers will be collecting the patented yellow bags throughout the city.

“We did have a record-breaking food drive. Last food drive. we raised 75,000 pounds in one day which was absolutely incredible and it filled the shelves… which we need filled again,” said Food Bank Executive Director Bernadette Siracky. “We are here asking Kamloops to fill those bags, put them on their doorsteps by 9:00 on Saturday morning and Rotarians and community volunteers will be picking them up.”

Should your house be missed, the donations can be dropped off at local grocery stores or at the food bank.

Historically, the spring food drive helps stock the shelves for three months, with all the food donated supporting local families and individuals.

“People are really hearing the message and knowing that food banks across the country are stretched – including us,” added Siracky. “This is as empty as I have seen these shelves since we built this building, the hub we are in now, in 2022. We really need help filling these shelves. The need is grand, people are here. We understand as a food bank that we are not solving poverty, we are simply providing emergency food to people who need it.”
