KAMLOOPS — There are just a few days to go for the latest edition of Barb’s Used Book and Music Sale in Kamloops, which wraps up this Saturday (April 25).

It’s billed as the biggest and best sale of gently used books, CDs and vinyls with proceeds going to support the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra (KSO) and the KSO Music School. This year’s sale is being held in the basement of the Double Tree Hotel on St. Paul Street, and it runs 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“Items start at just $1, and for us its one of the most impactful events that we do,” Chris Young, the executive director of the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra said. “Not only are we bringing in thousands of people into the sale itself, every dollar raised goes to support live music performance and music education in Kamloops.”

This is the 29th year for the twice-yearly sale and Young said it brings in about $70,000 for the KSO. It began in 1997 as an idea of then-KSO board member Barb Corbishley, and it was renamed in her honour after her passing.

“This is what allows us to have $5 tickets for our tiny tots series and $15 tickets for youth and orchestra performances and chamber performances at Kelson Hall,” Young said. “This is very much our way of being able to support community members who may not be able to access live music otherwise.”
