Alan Osmond, Eldest Performing Member Of The Osmonds, Dies At 76
Alan Osmond, the eldest performing member of the 1970s family band the Osmonds, died Monday at age 76. The musician passed away around 8:30 p.m. surrounded by wife Suzanne and eight children. Osmond was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1987 and mostly retired from performing afterward. He started singing with brothers Wayne, Merrill and Jay in 1958 before the group moved to Los Angeles and appeared on The Andy Williams Show for seven years. Later joined by brothers Donny and Jimmy, the Osmonds became teen idols from 1971-1976 with hits including “One Bad Apple” and “Crazy Horses.” Donny Osmond honored his older brother, calling him “my protector” and “my guide.” He shared a childhood photo on Instagram showing Alan’s arm around him as a baby, writing that Alan “quietly carried so much responsibility so the rest of us could shine.”
