North Shore Pathways shelter receives 20-month extension
KAMLOOPS — In a meeting that lasted just shy of six hours on Tuesday afternoon and evening (April 21), Kamloops city councillors voted 6-1 in favour of extending the Temporary Use Permit (TUP) for the North Shore access hub shelter, also known as Pathways.
Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson was the lone vote against the motion, while Katie Neustaeter and Mike O’Reilly both declared a conflict of interest and were not present.
In total, 36 people addressed council, either in person or virtually, with 23 speaking in favour of the extension, 11 against, and two did not state a preference.
Kamloops RCMP Supt. Jeff Pelley spoke in favour of the extension, saying his detachment is worried the closure of the facility could lead to issue being further spread out throughout the North Shore, and the creation of new encampments.
