KAMLOOPS — A pair of local residents have come forward this week to announce runs for Kamloops council.

Nevin Webster is known for their social media presence through their YKA Loopszer meme accounts.

“There are many important issues that we need to address in this city and I am ready to be part of a team that is ready to solve them,” said Webster in a post to social media.

Webster notes the issue of street disorder and homelessness are “the most notable” ahead of the 2026 election.

“I do not claim to have the solution, but I do believe in a boots-on-the-ground approach to understanding the needs of those who live on the streets of Kamloops.”

Rob Bertrand is the general manager of Notre Dame Tire.

In a social media post, Bertrand says he doesn’t see himself as a politician, but safety concerns are prompting his run for elected office.

“Things don’t feel as safe as they used to. Crime has gotten too comfortable. And too many decisions feel disconnected from the people actually living and working here,” said Bertrand.

“We can have a city where people feel safe again – but it’s going to take common sense, consistency and actually following through.”

General voting day for the next municipal election in Kamloops is Oct. 17, 2026.
