100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — The B.C. government is inviting residents of 100 Mile House and surrounding communities to provide input on the development of a Forest Landscape Plan (FLP).

The provincial government said feedback will help inform future forest management decisions in the 100 Mile House area.

The B.C. government is also developing the plan in partnership with Tsq’escen, Bonaparte, Esk’etemc, High Bar, Simpcw, Skeetchestn, Stswecem’c, Xget’tem, ‘Ts’kw’aylaxw, Whispering Pines and Williams Lake First Nation.

The nations and forest license holders have provided input on the pre-development phase, which was used to create the public survey.

“Engagement with forest licensees, subject-matter experts and the public is a key part of every FLP. This engagement ensures that operational expertise from forest licensees is incorporated into plan development, alongside First Nations’ interests and community-identified values,” said the B.C. government.

Residents can learn more at a pair of open house events – at the Clinton Memorial Hall at 306 Le Bourdais Avenue from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on May 6, and at the South Cariboo Recreation Center in 100 Mile House from 10 a.m. to 12:00 noon on May 9.

Those attending will have an opportunity to learn more about the 100 Mile House FLP and ask questions.

The public survey will be open until June 8, 2026 and all feedback collected will be integrated into the FLP.

Once completed, the document will encompass several goals:

  • Identifying where and how forest management activities occur, including timber harvesting, road layout, silviculture activities.
  • Providing clarity on overlapping direction from strategic plans and land use objectives.
  • Addressing changing conditions.
  • Address environmental impacts of timber harvesting, such as climate change and wildfires.
  • Consider cumulative effects to prepare for possible future conditions.
