KAMLOOPS — Police say an injured dirt biker who was airlifted after a crash near Duffy Lake southwest of Kamloops on Monday (April 13) afternoon is expected to make a full recovery.

In a statement Friday (April 17), police say the 60-year-old dirt biker fell about 12 feet down an embankment in the remote area of Duffy Lake Mountain, before he came to a stop on a cliff face.

The crash happened around 1:00 p.m. that afternoon, and the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment, BC Emergency Health Services and Kamloops Search and Rescue were all called to respond.

“Due to the remote location, it was essential that first responders provided life saving medical care while Kamloops Search and Rescue was instrumental in the coordination of the extraction,” S/Sgt. Del Byron of the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment, said in a statement.

“Air Rescue One Heli Winch Society provided the helicopter which was used in the evacuation of the man who was provided care for approximately eight hours while ground rescue hiked in with essential equipment for the rescue and extraction.”

While its not clear what caused the crash, RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier confirmed that no criminality is suspected. She also said the man is expected to make a full recovery.

“Fortunately, Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment had a police medic working at the time of the call and was able to hike in several kilometres to locate the rider who was suffering from lower leg fractures, and other serious fall related injuries,” Napier said,

“Without the police medic’s intervention, the outcome for the injured rider could have been much different.”
