Snowfall warning for Coquihalla between Hope and Merritt as up to 25cm expected Tuesday
MERRITT — Old man winter refuses to let go just yet, even as the first month of spring 2026 is nearly in the books.
Environment Canada has issued a yellow level snowfall warning for the Hope to Merritt section of the Coquihalla Highway, with between 15 and 25 centimetres of snow expected to fall on Tuesday (April 14).
“Falling freezing levels will accompany an influx of moisture on Tuesday as a low pressure system crosses the province from northwest to southeast,” Environment Canada said in the warning. “Strong winds at times will accompany this system and give limited visibility in blowing snow.”
A similar snowfall warning is also in effect for Highway 3 through the Kootenay Pass. Snow there is expected to begin Tuesday afternoon and last until late Wednesday night. Snow is expected to begin as lighter flurries Tuesday morning and intensify by that afternoon.
