KAMLOOPS — Kamloops and area residents will gather this Saturday (April 11) in a bid to stay active while raising money for Special Olympics.

About 200 people are expected to take part in the sixth annual Marathon of Sport at the Tournament Capital Centre and the old TRU gym. The event gets underway at 9:00 a.m. Saturday and it aims to bring together people of all abilities as a way to create a more inclusive community.

“It’s a day of fun, inclusive activities,” Ethan Bell, with motionball TRU, told CFJC Today. “We bring out Special Olympics athletes and we invite community members to make a team and participate. We do all sorts of events like basketball, dodgeball and soccer, and its just really good inclusive environment.”

Even if you are not participating, you are welcome to come watch and show support to those who are. While this year’s fundraiser has reached its $20,000 goal, donations are also still being accepted, with all proceeds going to support Special Olympics athletes.

“It’s a great opportunity to fundraise for a fantastic cause,” Bell added. “Being able to support these Special Olympics athletes who work so hard at what they do is just phenomenal.”

“It really means a lot to all of us to be able to just come out and support these, these fantastic athletes.”
