Milobar’s leadership campaign fined for missed deadline

KAMLOOPS — The BC Conservative Party has announced a $7,500 fine for the Peter Milobar leadership campaign for failing to met a payment deadline.

All of the campaigns were required to pay the third fee of the race, totaling $40,000 on or before April 1, 2026. The Party’s statement says Milobar’s cheque arrived one day late.

“The Peter Milobar Campaign’s Financial Agent sent a photograph of a cheque to Party staff on March 29, 2026, indicating the cheque was on its way to the Party Office by way of regular (unregistered) mail,” reads the statement.

“The Party received the Peter Milobar Campaign’s Third Fee on April 2, 2026, one day after the prescribed deadline and contrary to the Rules, which was brought to the attention of the Leadership Election Organizing Committee.”

The official statement does speak to the limited nature of the breach.

“LEOC acknowledges that the Peter Milobar Campaign’s Financial Agent is a volunteer who appears to have made reasonable efforts to meet the stipulated deadline, has met every other financial deadline, and did not otherwise intentionally violate the Rules. However, it is the responsibility of each campaign and ultimately each Leadership Contestant to ensure all fees are delivered by the applicable deadline,” reads the statement.

The Conservative will elect a new leader during a convention at the end of May.

“Our campaign is powered by BC’s most dedicated grassroots volunteers. One of them mailed a cheque days ahead of the deadline in good faith, trusting it would arrive on time. Unfortunately, it was delivered one day late. While we accept full responsibility for the delay, we remain proud of the hardworking volunteers who make this campaign possible,” reads a Tweet from Peter Milobar’s official account.

CFJC News has reached out to Milobar for comment and will update the story if more details become available.
