Netflix To Stream Eddie Murphy’s AFI Life Achievement Award Special Category Icon
Netflix will premiere The 51st AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute To Eddie Murphy on May 31st, marking the first time the special streams on the platform. Murphy will receive the honor at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on April 18th. AFI calls Murphy “the most commercially successful African-American actor in the history of the motion picture business and one of the industry’s top five box-office performers overall.” His many notable films include 48 Hrs., Trading Places, Coming to America, and the Beverly Hills Cop franchise. Murphy started stand-up in 1980 and joined Saturday Night Live at age 19. Recent projects include Netflix’s Being Eddie documentary and Amazon’s The Pickup. Previous AFI Life Achievement Award recipients include Francis Ford Coppola, Julie Andrews, George Clooney, and Meryl Streep
