Lifesaving Society honours TRU student for rescuing two men from Thompson River in 2025
KAMLOOPS — A Thompson Rivers University student was honoured by the Lifesaving Society on the weekend for rescuing two men from the fast-rushing waters of the Thompson River near McArthur Island last summer.
Sam Zulyniak was given the society’s Silver Medal for Bravery at a ceremony in Vancouver Saturday (March 28).
On July 6, 2025, Zulyniak was enjoying some summertime recreation when he noticed three men struggling to stay afloat in the river.
The former Kamloops Storm player jumped into action, bringing one of the men to shore before returning to the water and pulling a second man to safety.
