Foundry Kamloops aiming for summer opening as it receives sizable donation from RIH Foundation

KAMLOOPS — Foundry Kamloops is now less than $1 million from its capital goal to complete its site in the city’s downtown. 

In a news release issued Tuesday (March 31), Interior Community Services (ICS) announced it received a $250,000 donation from the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation. 

ICS, which holds the provincial government contract for Foundry Kamloops, says the donation being paid over five years will go toward opening the integrated wellness centre for youth aged 12 to 24 and their caregivers. Foundry Kamloops is expected to open in summer 2026. 

The Foundry location at the Desert Gardens Community Seniors Centre at 540 Seymour St. will provide young people with barrier-free mental health, physical health and social services. ICS says it will include multiple private talking rooms, group space, a peer lounge, clinical care rooms and a demonstration kitchen for youth-led programming.

According to ICS, research from Foundry BC has shown communities with a Foundry centre experience a lower number of emergency room visits by youth, especially for mental health and substance use concerns.

The Seniors Community Centre offered the first-floor space at the Desert Gardens Community Seniors Centre to ICS. The operator of Foundry Kamloops has said the donated space is worth nearly $3 million. 

In total, ICS’ capital campaign goal for opening Foundry Kamloops is $4.5 million. 

While awaiting the opening of Foundry Kamloops, youth can access support services online through Foundry’s app and website. 

The RIH Foundation recently raised $589,441 through its radiothon on B-100.
