WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — The Kamloops Storm are in a spot of bother in the Doug Birks Division Finals series against the Williams Lake Mustangs.

The Storm are facing elimination after they lost game three 4-2 Monday (March 23) night at the Cariboo Memorial Rec Complex. The result has the Mustangs firmly in the driver’s seat as they lead the best-of-seven series 3-0, with game four set for this evening.

Kamloops (32-10-1-1) won the Doug Birks Division title as they finished the regular season with 66 points from 44 games. While they were nine points ahead of second-place Williams Lake (26-13-2-3), the Mustangs have had their number as they took four out of five games in the regular season.

The Storm struck first on Monday night through Ryan Pedersen on the power play, but the Mustangs bounced back with a pair from JP Desabrais – scored with the man advantage – and Logan Hauk to lead 2-1 after one period.

Nolan MacPherson pulled the Storm back to within a goal midway through the third period, but the Mustangs were able to capitalize on another pair of power play opportunities to extend their lead. Alberto Kellgren and Kaelen Swanson scored a little over two minutes apart to make it a 4-2 final.

All three of Williams Lake’s goals came on the power play, as they scored on three of five opportunities. Kamloops was one for two with the man advantage.

Storm netminder Brenner Fyfe stopped 40 of 44 shots in a losing effort, while Williams Lake’s Jaxson Dikur stopped 37 of 39.

This evening’s game at the Cariboo Memorial Rec Complex is at 7:00 p.m. puck drop, with game five – if needed – scheduled to be played on Friday (March 27) at McArthur Island.
