East Kamloops BIA thrilled with recent corridor development

KAMLOOPS – The Valleyview-Dallas-Campbell Creek corridor in Kamloops has seen a lot of development over the past 12 months, with many projects coming to fruition at the same time.

The East Kamloops Business Improvement Association (EKBIA) has been collaborating with business partners to help revitalize the corridor and make it attractive for new developments.

“We’re seeing a 26 per cent population growth being expected for Valleyview, Dallas, Campbell Creek area over the next 20 years, which is no small feat. We’re really focused on building out the town center and Campbell Creek area, which seems to be where a lot of that growth is going to be oriented,” said Clare Warner, the executive director of the East Kamloops Business Improvement Association.

More development means more opportunities for businesses to pop up in the Valleyview area, where nearly half have been in operation for two decades.

“To have new businesses and new opportunities for new commercial spaces is fantastic,” Warner said. Almost 50 per cent of our businesses have been here for over 20 years. We have loads of heritage businesses, but we do want to see new businesses starting in new spaces that can accommodate them.”

The Tournament Inn site has been busy in the past, with a past history of police presence. The inn has since been knocked down and is being replaced by two hotels, one of which will also add a 200-person banquet space.

“We’re going to see a Comfort Inn and a Best Western, which offer two different spaces for us. There aren’t that many banquet or event spaces in Valleyview. To see that coming in for the neighbourhood is going to make a huge difference,” added Warner.

Construction at the site has already begun, with the hope that the new spaces will be available within the next three years.

“We’re seeing about an 18-month timeline for the first hotel, which will be the Comfort Inn, which is going to be really exciting, because I think it will instigate a lot of change for the neighbourhood. We’re hoping to see more even along the frontage road as part of the rezoning,” said Warner.

More news about development in the corridor – and a look back at 2025 – is set to be presented at this afternoon’s (March 24) city council meeting.
