Bill Cosby Accuser Wins $59.3 Million In Civil Sexual Assault Case
A California jury awarded Donna Motsinger $59.3 million on Monday after finding Bill Cosby liable for sexually assaulting her in 1972. Motsinger, 84, claimed Cosby drugged and raped her after befriending her while she worked as a waitress in Sausalito. She testified Cosby gave her wine and pills during a theater recording, causing her to lose consciousness and wake up partially clothed at home. The Santa Monica jury awarded $17.5 million for past mental suffering and $1.75 million for future damages. Jurors also found Cosby acted with “malice, oppression, or fraud,” potentially leading to $40 million in punitive damages. During trial, prosecutors played Cosby’s deposition where he admitted obtaining Quaaludes to give women for sex and said he didn’t worry about consent. Cosby’s lawyer called the verdict disappointing and plans to appeal. The 88-year-old comedian has denied all assault allegations. (Story URL)
