Matonovich of Kamloops named GNAC female freshman of the year

KAMLOOPS — Raiya Matonovich had an outstanding indoor track and field season with the Simon Fraser Red Leafs.

The 18-year-old runner was on Friday named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference female freshman of the year, thanks in part to her four-medal performance at the GNAC Championships, at which she was named track athlete of the meet.

As CFJC Today reports, Matonovich is shifting focus to the outdoor season and she says her future with SFU beyond the 2026-2027 season is uncertain.
