KAMLOOPS — Work on the 4th Avenue Sewer Upgrades Project will resume on Monday (March 23), impacting traffic throughout the week.

The City of Kamloops said paving work from Seymour Street to St. Paul Street will get underway on Monday, followed by utility prep work and line painting in that section on Tuesday and Wednesday.

4th Avenue will be closed through the entire week while work is underway.

“Access for businesses and residents will be maintained, but may be temporarily impacted at times during the work. The project team will maintain close communication with all affected properties regarding impacts such as access, parking, and garbage collection,” said City staff.

On Thursday (March 26), traffic lights at 4th Avenue’s intersections with Victoria and Seymore Streets will have partial power interruptions due to the relocation of traffic control boxes as part of the Centre for the Arts project.

“To aid with the logistics of this work, crews will enact a closure of 4th Avenue from Victoria Street to Seymour Street (single lane northbound movement from Seymour Street to Victoria Street will be maintained) for approximately 12 hours beginning at 9:00 a.m.,” said City officials.

“The lights at 4th Avenue and Victoria Street will continue to run on back-up power, with traffic control personnel on standby should the lights go dark.”

Southbound traffic will not be permitted along 4th Avenue at this time, and the section from Seymour to St. Paul Street will remain closed to vehicle traffic.

The City said traffic control staff will be on-site to guide drivers and pedestrians through the area.

On Friday (March 27), a BC Hydro crew will conduct site clean-up and the City expects 4th Avenue from from Victoria Street to St. Paul Street to reopen by the end of the day.
