TNRD solid waste disposal fees increases to take effect April 1

KAMLOOPS — Residents are being told of increased disposal fees at the Thompson-Nicola Regional District’s (TNRD) 27 solid waste network facilities. 

Effective April 1, 2026 the TNRD says bagged garbage fees will increase from $1 to $2 per bag while concrete disposal fees will be set at $50 per tonne, up from the previous rate of $30. 

Additionally, a five per cent increase will be applied to all other disposal fees and minimum charges. 

In a news release issued Tuesday (March 17), the TNRD says the board of directors approved the changes to align with operational costs and reduce the amount required from property taxes to fund its solid waste and recycling service. 

The TNRD notes most recyclable materials, such as household recycling and yard waste, scrap metal, appliances, car batteries, tires and propane tanks are free to dispose of at its sites. The regional district adds multiple types of organic waste can be disposed of in a backyard composter.
