SALMON ARM, B.C. — A man was arrested after a loaded handgun was seized in the Shuswap.

Salmon Arm RCMP say officers carried out a traffic stop on Wednesday (March 11) where they saw “indicators consistent with drug trafficking.”

In a news release issued Friday (March 13), RCMP say the driver and passenger were arrested, and the loaded handgun with nine bullets was seized shortly after.

While the driver was released pending further investigation, police say the passenger, Kale Skjeie, remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing. He’s been charged with one count each of failing to comply with an undertaking by possessing a firearm, possessing a firearm without a license, possessing a restricted firearm while prohibited and unsafe transport of a firearm.

“This type of activity has no place in our community,” Sgt. Simon Scott states. “Illegal drugs and firearms pose a serious risk to the public, and our officers remain committed to holding those responsible accountable. We will continue to take proactive steps to keep Salmon Arm safe.”
