BLUE RIVER, B.C. — Police say a person wanted for murder was arrested in the North Thompson after the vehicle they were in got stuck in the ditch along Highway 5 early Thursday (March 12) morning.

In a statement, BC RCMP say officers from the Clearwater detachment responded to a vehicle stuck in a ditch near Blue River, around 3:15 a.m. A lengthy highway closure was initiated as police say officers determined that one of the occupants of the vehicle was wanted for murder and potentially armed.

“Out of an abundance of caution, police closed the highway in both directions for both police and public safety,” the RCMP statement said. “The Southeast District Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Service were called to assist with the arrests due to the high‑risk nature of the incident.”

Police say “all occupants” of the vehicle were arrested just before 11:00 a.m. Thursday. While no identities were provided, police also confirmed that one person was wanted for murder while the other was the subject of a Canada‑wide warrant for parole violations.

“Thank you to the public for their patience and cooperation during this incident,” BC RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Brett Urano added in the statement.

“We recognize the impact that road closures have on the community, and we appreciate everyone’s understanding as we work to keep the public, and our officers, safe.”
