KAMLOOPS — (UPDATE 11:55 a.m.): For the second year in a row, the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation Radiothon on B-100 raised more than half a million dollars.

According to an updated fundraising total released Friday (March 6) morning, the 12th annual Radiothon raised $589,441 – although organizers noted that some donations are still being counted.

“Kamloops and Barriere and Logan Lake, we saw Ashcroft, we saw a lot coming in from all over, so we were really excited with the number. $589,441 was the total because we got some overnight donations,” said Foundation CEO Heidi Coleman. “We are celebrating here, the whole hospital is celebrating.”

This year, the RIH Foundation received an anonymous matching donation for the first $200,000 raised Thursday.

“We had some callers that said that I want to buy something with my $1,000, I want to buy a piece of equipment so for sure all (the equipment wish list) is bought. And then we are going to start looking at other bigger pieces. Some for the hybrid OR, women’s health, the ERCP suite,” said Coleman.

Last year’s Radiothon managed to raise just over $650,000 in a record-breaking first year on B-100 to check off items on the hospital’s equipment wish list.

While the money raised this year will be used throughout the hospital, RIH Foundation CEO Heidi Coleman notes they’re putting a focus on women’s health.

“From cancer care, to orthopedics, to cardiac, to women’s health we are taking care of the whole community, but we couldn’t do it without the whole community. So thank you to everyone who participated,” said Coleman.
