KAMLOOPS — Thompson Rivers University (TRU) set another record for its Day of Giving.

TRU says $131,584 was raised by 264 donors over 24 hours on Feb. 26, surpassing the university’s goal of $100,000. Funds raised through Day of Giving support scholarships and bursaries for TRU students in Kamloops and Williams Lake.

“It gave me peace of mind,” Joe Williamson, Bachelor of Computing Science states in a news release. “I didn’t have to worry as much about personal finances and tuition fees, which allowed me to focus more on my studies.”

“I already put 100 per cent into my schoolwork, but this support allowed me to be less stressed, which made a big difference.” Alexa Liptak, Bachelor of Communications says.

“Donations aren’t just money. They’re opportunities. They’re time. They’re consideration,” Rumana Patel, Master of Education says. “They go far beyond financial support. Sometimes it’s the motivation someone needs; sometimes it’s the opportunity they’ve been waiting for, for years. (By giving), you have started something like a domino effect — you may not realize how many people your kindness will touch.”

TRU has set new records for Day of Giving over the past three years, raising nearly $82,000 in 2024 and nearly $106,000 in 2025.
