KAMLOOPS — Incumbent Kamloops Councillor Nancy Bepple announced she is running for re-election.

Previously, Bepple served two terms as a city councillor from 2008 to 2014. She was voted back to Kamloops council for her third term in 2022.

Bepple is the first incumbent councillor to announce they’re running for a council seat in the 2026 municipal election. Kamloops Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson announced his intention to seek re-election in 2024. In 2025, Incumbent Councillor Mike O’Reilly announced his intentions to run for the mayor’s seat, having spent two terms on council.

Bepple is focusing on four things in her term: livability and sustainability, housing, the economy and reconciliation.

“Kamloops is growing. We need to improve our transit and cycling sidewalks. We have to make sure that our streets are safe,” Bepple says. “One in three people lives alone, and one out of every three households is just two people. When we build housing, we have to think about building one and two-person households.

“Kamloops is the second-largest mining supply center in B.C. My goal is that Kamloops will be the Western Canada hub for mine supply. It will help our economy grow and flourish. We have to continue building relationships with Tkʼemlúps. The provincial government is changing legislation, and it’s more important to make sure we have a strong relationship with Tkʼemlúps.”

The recent council term has been marred in controversy for many of her fellow members but Bepple says this term was effective and helped move the city forward.

“I always start by focusing on my job. You can’t control other people. You can only control yourself. I think that council as a whole was actually very effective,” Bepple says.

General voting day for the next municipal election in Kamloops is Oct. 17, 2026.
