PENTICTON — A pair of curlers with ties to Kamloops have won the 2026 B.C. senior men’s curling title.

Former Kamloops resident, Jim Cotter, and Trevor Miyahara, who lives in the city, went a perfect 8-0 at the Penticton Curling Club, which hosted the event Feb. 24 to March 1.

The Cotter foursome, which also featured Penticton’s Brad Wood at third and Vernon’s Kevin Geistlinger at second, beat the Kelowna/Vernon/Salmon Arm-based Dave Belway rink 6-4 in Sunday’s (March 1) championship game.

Trailing 4-3 going into the eighth end, Cotter made a double run double on his first shot and then made a hit on his last to score three to secure the win, and a spot at the National Senior Curling Championships, which will be held in Saskatoon Dec. 6 to 13.

Team Cotter also beat Belway 8-5 in the 1 vs 2 Page Playoff game Saturday to earn a spot in the championship game. They went 6-0 in the round-robin stage and were the only team to not face defeat in Penticton.

In women’s curling, the Leanne Andrews rink from Kamloops/Cloverdale/Howe Sound lost a C vs. C playoff game to Shiella Cowan’s New Westminster/Vancouver rink, which emerged as the eventual champion in the triple knockout tournament.

The Andrews foursome, which features third Jenn Routliffe, second Christine Mathews, and lead Philippa Johnston, went 3-3 in Penticton.
