TRU Day of Giving hopes to raise $100,000 for students

KAMLOOPS — Thursday (Feb 26) is Thompson Rivers University’s annual day of giving with donations being accepted until midnight.

Last year, TRU was able to set a high bar as it was able to raise just shy of $106,000 in the 24 hour period. This year, the university hopes to raise $100,000 to support students through scholarships and bursaries.

“Members of this community understand that, we have got family members that have been, we have kids there, we have our own family that are at university right now and we want to see them succeed and get out and make a difference,” said TRU President Airini.

“We are just very grateful every time a member of our community steps up and pops a hand into their pocket. It’s about investing in a future that can make a difference right here in the interior of B.C. and for our country.”

Donations are being accepted by phone during the day today or anytime online. Those donating also have the opportunity to decide exactly where their dollars go at the university.

“Right across all areas of TRU, through trades, health, education, science, robotic, mining, every part could be touched,” said Airini. “We could really help our students to focus on their studies to succeed and get out make some really good solutions happen.”
